BI Governor to Resume Role as Chair of ACC-BIS until 2024
Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo is set to resume his role as Chair of the Asian Consultative Council - Bank for International Settlements (ACC-BIS).
IDXChannel - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo is set to resume his role as Chair of the Asian Consultative Council - Bank for International Settlements (ACC-BIS) from 26 September 2023, for the next year.
The decision is based on an approval by the BIS Board of Directors on 11 September 2023, to extend Perry Warjiyo's term as Chair of ACC-BIS, who has served since September 2021 and would conclude on 26 September 2023.
"As Chair, the Bank Indonesia Governor will guide ACC-BIS activities in various areas of central banking, including monetary, macroprudential and payment system matters," said BI Communication Department Executive Director Erwin Haryono in a media release on Tuesday (12/9/2023).
"During his chairmanship, Perry Warjiyo will continue to encourage the BIS Hong Kong Office, which serves as the ACC-BIS secretariat, to produce research and policy recommendations on a variety of issues," he added.
Several issues are currently surfacing among global central banks, such as policy strategies in facing global economic, financial and geopolitical shocks to ensure macroeconomic and financial system stability.
Moreover, other important issues are financing sources to support global efforts to combat climate change (sustainable finance), and principles that are required as a reference in the development of digital currency issued by central banks (Central Bank Digital Currency), including the development of a cross-border payment system.
