IDXChannel - Australia is commitmed to support Indonesia's ambition to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The statement was conveyed by Australian Trade Minister Don Farrell when meeting Indonesian Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan on Thursday (16/11/2023) in San Francisco.

"Australia and Indonesia are close friends and neighbours, and welcoming Indonesia to the OECD carries many benefits for all parties," he said in a media release.

"Australia will contribute to Indonesia's efforts to prepare for the OECD accession process, by supporting an economic survey of Indonesia through the OECD," he stated.

Indonesia's application, he added, demonstrates a commitment to align more closely with OECD standards and norms, including open market settings.

"It will support Indonesia becoming further integrated with regional and global supply chains," he continued.

The two ministers also discussed ways to deepen trade, investment and economic ties between the two neighboring countries.

"The Government's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 serves as a practical pathway for achieving this," he concluded. (WHY)
