IDXChannel - Agriculture is one of the pillars of the economy during the covid-19 pandemic. However, farmers currently must prepare themselves to anticipate El Nino.

Scientists predicted that the phenomenon would occur this year. El Nino could affecte agricultural industries in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia.

"We have to thank farmers because agriculture has become an economic cushion during the pandemic," said Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo in a written statement, Sunday (11/6/2023).

Furthermore, he stated, the world may face a global food crisis in the future.  The world's agricultural productivity is predicted to decline significantly.

"We must be ready to anticipate climate change and the threat of a global food crisis," said Syahrul.

The Head of the Agricultural Human Resource Development Agency (BPPSDMP), Dedi Nursyamsi, reiterated the Ministry of Agriculture's commitment to anticipating El Nino and other global food challenges.

"For this reason, I invite everyone to synchronize their measures in anticipating these problems," said Dedi. (WHY)
