Government Follows Up on Montara Oil Spill Case

The Coordinating Ministry fo Maritime Affairs and Investment is following up on the Montara Oil spill case that accured on August 2009.

IDXChannel – The Coordinating Ministry fo Maritime Affairs and Investment is following up on the Montara Oil spill case that accured on August 2009 in which the that oil and gas company PTT Expolation and Production has agreed to pay compensation of up to AUS 192,5 million or equivalent Rp2 trillion. 

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that the compensation fund would be allocated to the affected fishermen where ach fisherman would receive funds of around Rp63 to Rp73,5 million. In addition the Coordinating 

Ministry fo Maritime Affairs and Fisheries also asked for the preparation and arrangement of the distribution of compensation fund to be carried out professionaly. 

“Regarding this arrangement, I want it to be professional, we will propose later how much the capital will be, what are the activities, for example boat upgrades, so that from there a fishing organization can be formed, later I ask to calculate how much the initial capital is so that later the people there really have to be prosperous .”
