IDXChannel - Seeing the great potential in the African market, especially South Africa, the Indonesian Embassy in Pretoria is holding Threads of Indonesia to promote Indonesian textile products.

Supported by the Indonesian Consulate General in Cape Town, ITPC Johannesburg, Indonesia Eximbank, Bank Rakyat Indonesia, and Bank Mandiri, Threads of Indonesia consists of a series of activities such as fashion shows, business matching activities, talk shows, and  company visits. The main event is being held in Cape Town on 11-13 September.

Taking place at the historic Mount Nelson Hotel, the Threads of Indonesia fashion show was held on September 11. During the fashion show, two Indonesian designers, Anita Gathmir and Jessica Febiani, presented elegant collections that feature Indonesian textiles.

A total of 60 guests, including potential buyers from various companies and retailers, were seen enjoying the fashion show.

In his remarks, the Indonesian Ambassador to South Africa, Saud Krisnawan, said that currently Indonesia is the sixth largest textile producer in the world and is targeting the fifth largest position in the world by 2030. Ambassador Saud added that many international brands entrust the production of their products in factories in Indonesia.

Apart from that, many original Indonesian brands are starting to enter the international market. However, Indonesia is not even one of the top 10 clothing, textile, footwear and leather (CTFL) suppliers to South Africa.

"So we initiated Threads of Indonesia to promote Indonesian TPT to the South African market," said Ambassador Saud in a media releecase on Wednesday (13/9/2023).

The fashion show was followed by business matching activities. Apart from the two designers who were present directly in Cape Town, buyers also met with 29 other Indonesian suppliers virtually.

Arief Ilham Ramadhan, First Secretary of the Indonesian Embassy in Pretoria, said Threads of Indonesia actually started on 6 July when his office held business matching activities in Durban. (WHY)
