IDXChannel - Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan  has urged beverage industry actors to develop recycling facilities to alleviate environmental concerns and realize a circular economy.

The Coordinating Minister emphasized that the government should not be the sole party responsible for addressing environmental issues.

According to him, other parties have an equal role to play in this regard.

"I pay a lot of attention to this. Not only talk. In Davos, I said that we talk too much, we have to start even with small things," Luhut said.

"I think we have to do small steps like this, I encourage the beverage industry to make something like this (recycling facility) in West Java, Jakarta, Central Java, East Java. So, we have to make the collection center, then we build the vertices centralized. This is our huge task and is (our effort in developing) a circular economy that can generate new jobs," Luhut added.

The minister pointed out that the government's firm commitment to addressing environmental issues was reflected through its success in collecting 35.5 percent of plastic waste floating in seas.

Furthermore, the Coordinating Minister stated that the development of plastic recycling facilities would open new jobs in the environmentally sustainable sector for the people and realize a circular economy.
