IDXChannel - President Joko Widodo visited Wonokromo market in Surabaya, East Java to check the stocks and prices of food commodities such as rice, cooking oil and eggs.
According to the president, rice prices in the market are quite stable at around Rp9,000 per kilogram, indicating that market operations conducted by the state-owned logistics agency to stabilize rice prices were already underway.
Regarding rice stocks, Jokowi noted that several regions had entered the main harvest season that would last from the end of february to early march/
With this harvest season, Jokowi is optimistic of more abundant rice stocks that will in turn affect the prices of the commodity.
"I want to check the rice prices. The Bulog market operation has worked. The rice price here is around Rp44,000 for five kilograms. That means the price is below Rp9,000 per kilogram. All merchants in this market have sufficient rice stock," he said.
“The harvest season will begin in early March, nationally, in February, around 1 million tonnes, later in March around 1.9 million tonnes. So if there is production from farmers, then the stock is abundant, if the stock is abundant and the demand is constant, the price will automatically fall,” he added.
