Biden Congratulates Prabowo on Becoming Indonesian President

United States (US) President Joe Biden congratulated Prabowo Subianto on his inauguration as Indonesian President.

Biden also congratulated the Indonesian people for exercising their right to vote and making their voices heard.

"This year, Indonesia and the United States are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations," Biden said in a statement on Sunday (20/10/2024).

"Vice President Harris and I look forward to working with President Prabowo to honor this milestone by continuing to strengthen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and show that democracies can deliver on the challenges that matter most to our peoples’ lives," he said.

Prabowo was officially inaugurated as Indonesian President on Sunday after winning the presidential race early this year.

"The United States congratulates Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on his inauguration.  His election is a testament to the shared values of democracy and rule of law that bind the United States and Indonesia, two of the world’s largest democracies," US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.

"Our mutual commitment to human rights, diversity, and prosperity is crucial to preserve a free and open Indo-Pacific region and world.  We look forward to deepening our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and to furthering the opportunities it has created for our peoples," Blinken said.
