India Encouraged to Help Strengthen Food Security in ASEAN
Indonesia has encouraged stronger on food security between ASEAN and India.
IDXChannel - Indonesia has encouraged stronger on food security between ASEAN and India.
The issue was raised by Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi during the ASEAN-India Post-Ministerial Conference (PMC) meeting in Jakarta on Thursday (13/7/2023).
"We know the growing population of ASEAN and India increasingly rely on food security," she said.
"Therefore we need to invest effort to ensure food availability, accessability and affordability in times of crisis," she added.
According to Retno, the cooperation must focus on establishing sustainable food supply-chains through unimpeded trade, dialogues, and transparent government policies.
'We also encourage long-term collaboration in agriculture technology and research system to increase local food production while benefiting smallscale farmers," she stated.
"This is why Indonesia proposes a Joint Leaders’ Statement on Strengthening
Cooperation on Food Security in Times of Crisis for adoption at the upcoming ASEAN-India Summit," she continued. (WHY)
