IDXChannel - United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to London on Thursday (21/11/2024). They agreed to launch a new strategic partnership.

"We have agreed to pursue a new, deeper strategic partnership between the UK and Indonesia that we will launch in 2025," they said in a joint statement.

"It will deliver a more prosperous, secure and sustainable future for the people of both countries. It will provide a framework, grounded in the principles of mutual respect and cooperation, to deliver the full potential of our relationship, maximise the opportunities we see for the next five years and lay the foundations for our partnership over decades to come," they added.

The new strategic partnership will also provide a framework that engages our respective businesses, academia and research institutions, cultural organisations and wider societies.

“As we celebrate 75 years of collaboration between the UK and Indonesia, we reflect on the  great contribution of our partnership for our people, planet, prosperity and peace," UK Ambassador to Indonesia said in a statement.

"Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Prabowo see even greater potential for our  relationship to deliver their priorities – to create jobs and prosperity though boosting trade and investment, to work more closely to bring peace and stability in an increasingly uncertain world, and to tackle the climate and nature crises," he said.

During his visit, Prabowo also met with King Charles III and a group of British business leaders. (Wahyu Dwi Anggoro)
