IDXChannel - Indonesia has encouarged archipelagic and island states to stand in solidarity and work together.

According to Indonesian foreign minister Retno Marsudi, rivalries, global conflicts, and distrust are taking hostage of global cooperation, and vulnerable countries, including small island developing states, will be the first victims.

"Therefore, Indonesia and all of us are choosing the right tool, are choosing the right path of cooperation, solidarity, and inclusivity, she said when opening the Fifth Ministerial Meeting of the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum in Bali on Tuesday (10/10/2023).

"AIS Forum must become a lighthouse which guides our pathway forward to develop inclusive and impactful cooperation and protect our future generations," she added.

AIS Forum is also expected to support innovative efforts to address the triple planetary crisis namely climate change, marine pollution and biodiversity loss.

"We must continue ensuring tangible results on four key areas, such as: climate change mitigation and adaptation, blue economy and ecotourism, marine and coastal plastic debris, and good maritime governance," she stated.

The first High-Level Meeting of the AIS Forum will take place in Bali  from 10-11 October. (WHY)
