Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono Attends BRICS Summit in Russia

Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono has arrived in Kazan, Russia to join the BRICS Plus 2024 Summit.

IDXChannel - Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono has arrived in Kazan, Russia to join the BRICS Plus 2024 Summit.

"Foreign Minister Sugiono was assigned to attend as the Special Envoy of President Prabowo Subianto at the meeting," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday (22/102/204).

"This visit is Foreign Minister Sugiono's first official visit after being officially inaugurated," the Ministry said.

 According to the Ministry, hiis presencee at this forum reaffirms Indonesia's commitment to continue playing an active role in international forums and strengthening relations with all countries, including BRICS member states.

"In the BRICS Plus summit, Indonesia will convey an important message of peace and call for the importance of developing countries and the Global South to unite, enhance solidarity, and play their crucial role in creating a more inclusive, just, and equitable world order," the Ministry said.

BRICS is a cooperation forum formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa to discuss current global issues. At the beginning of 2024, several other countries, namely the UAE, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia, have joined, bringing its membership to nine countries.

The BRICS summit with developing countries carries the theme BRICS and Global South: Joint Building of a Better World. The Russian presidency has invited BRICS member countries, non-BRICS member countries, and international organizations such as the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and Eurasian Economic Commission. (EEC).

In recent years, Indonesia has been invited to the BRICS forum. This year, Indonesia has been invited again to attend the BRICS Plus meeting.

In addition to attending the BRICS Plus Summit, Sugiono is also scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings with friendly countries to discuss bilateral, regional, and global issues. (Wahyu Dwi Anggoro)
