IDXChannel - The Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project is an incredibly beneficial collaboration between Indonesia and Japan

Emperor Naruhito of Japan and his entourage visited the Integrated MRT Depot in Lebak Bulus on Sunday. The Japanese Emperor was also accompanied by Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi

"In its four years of operation, it has not only achieved zero accidents but it has also become a symbol of Indonesian-Japanese culture and friendship. The culture of discipline, cleanliness, and meticulous care is a distinctive feature of Japan that we should learn from and uphold. Therefore, the MRT builds physical infrastructure and its community as well," said Ambassador Heri in a statement released by the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo.

According to Ambassador Heri, the MRT project brings benefits not only to Jakarta's transportation but also symbolises Indonesian-Japanese culture and friendship.

"The visit of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako to Indonesia coincides with the commemoration of 65 years of Indonesia-Japan relations. This is certainly a symbol of strengthening the broader and strategic cooperation between the two countries in various sectors," he added.

The visit to the Jakarta MRT Depot was then followed by a visit to The Pluit Reservoir Pump Station in Jakarta.

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako are scheduled to stay in Indonesia from 17-23 June 2023.

In addition to meeting with President Joko Widodo on Monday, the Emperor and his entourage will visit several locations, including Borobudur Temple in Central Java and the Yogyakarta Palace. (WHY)
