IDXChannel - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) attended the 15th BRICS Summit at the Sandton Convention Center, Johannesburg, South Africa on Thursday (24/8/2023). During the BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue sessions, President Jokowi emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation between developing countries.

According to President Jokowi, discriminatory actions against the development efforts of developing countries must be eliminated. Moreover, equal and inclusive cooperation must continue to be encouraged. 

​"We must reject trade discriminations. Industrial downstreaming efforts must not be hindered," President Jokowi said 

We must all continue to promote equal and inclusive cooperation," the Indonesian head of state added.

After attending the BRICS Summit, President Jokowi stated that Indonesia would consider joining BRICS in the future.

According to the President, relations between Indonesia and BRICS member countries, especially in the economic field, have been very good. However, Indonesia has not yet submitted an "expression of interest" letter to officially start its BRICS membership bid.

The President emphasized that the decision regarding BRICS membership would be studied carefully and would not be taken in haste. (WHY)
