Jokowi Officially Opens 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially opened the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo on Wednesday (10/5/2023).

IDXChannel - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially opened the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo on Wednesday (10/5/2023). On the first day, Jokowi will chair five meetings.

"Welcome to the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo," Jokowi said in his welcoming speech.

Today, the Summit includes a plenary meeting as well as four interface meetings with representatives of parliament members, youth, business people and high-level task force officials.

On the next day, three meetings will be held, namely a retreat meeting and two sub-regional meetings.

According to Jokowi, the global economy has not fully recovered and major power rivalries continue to sharpen.

“With unity ASEAN would be able to play a central role in bringing peace and economic growth ASEAN Matters. We possess major assets as the epicentrum of growth. An economy that grows far above average global economic growth, demographic bonus, and a maintained regional stability,” Jokowi stated.

“Onwards, ASEAN must increase efforts to strengthen economic integration, reinforce inclusive cooperation, including through the implementation of the RCEP, and strengthen regional health architecture, food security, energy resilience, and financial stability,” he continued. (WHY)
