IDXChannel - Australia’s National Capital Authority (NCA) and Indonesia’s Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation for Australia’s capital city Canberra and Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara.

OIKN’s Chairman Bambang Susantono signed the MoU at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta on Tuesday (27/2/2024), while NCA’s Chief Executive Officer, Sally Barnes, signed it in Canberra.

The two then shared a virtual handshake to seal the deal.

“During the Annual Leaders Meeting in July 2023, Prime Minister Albanese and President Widodo welcomed the emerging cooperation between Australia’s National Capital Authority and Indonesia’s Nusantara Capital City Authority,” said Australia’s Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Steve Scott, in a media release.

“This MoU realises that collaboration," he added.

Nusantara and Canberra are both designed and planned national capitals, making this MoU particularly unique and relevant. The MoU covers potential exchanges of people and information, joint studies and exhibitions, and other cooperation. It extends on support that the Australian Government has already provided towards the development of Nusantara.

“The Australian Government is working with the Indonesian Government towards the development of Ibu Kota Nusantara,” said Deputy Ambassador Scott .

"We continue to work together by developing a masterplan to guide affordable, sustainable and safe urban mobility and by undertaking an environmental assessment to minimise environmental impacts. This MoU is the latest step in our efforts to support Nusantara’s development," he concluded. (WHY)
