The 56th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting to Commence in Jakarta Today
The 56th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting/Post Ministerial Conference (AMM-PMC) is set to commence today, Tuesday (11/7/2023).
IDXChannel - The 56th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting/Post Ministerial Conference (AMM-PMC) is set to commence today, Tuesday (11/7/2023). The ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting was convened on Monday at the Shangri-la Hotel in Jakarta, preceding the AMM-PMC.
According to a media release issued by the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, senior officials from the ten ASEAN countries and Timor Leste were in attendance to discuss the priority programs of Indonesia's ASEAN Chairmanship, strengthening cooperation with ASEAN external partners, and preparations for the 56th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting. A number of priorities of Indonesia's Chairmanship were also discussed, including strengthening ASEAN capacity and institutions as well as the implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
The ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting was followed by the Executive Committee meeting of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Commission which emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in maintaining a nuclear weapon-free region and strengthening regional security.
The outcomes of these two meetings will be further discussed at the level of ASEAN Foreign Ministers.
Until July 14, ASEAN Foreign Ministers and Dialogue Partner countries will begin discussing a number of issues in order to foster a stronger ASEAN region in facing challenges and in co-operation with those outside the region.
With the theme ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth, Indonesia advances the importance of ASEAN centrality in facing global challenges and enhancing cooperation among member countries in the fields of economy, security and development.
The AMM-PMC will be participated by 29 countries, along with the ASEAN Secretariat and the European Union, and attended by more than 1,100 delegates. (WHY)
