IDXChannel - Japanese Emperor Naruhito paid a visit to Indonesia. This is his first visit after being appointed Emperor of Japan on May 1, 2019.

"This means his first overseas visit after he (the emperor) ascended the throne," Press Secretary Kojiro Shiojiri said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako made a five-day visit to Indonesia and arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Saturday (17/6).

Secretary Shiojiri said that Emperor Naruhito visited Indonesia at the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who visited Japan in July last year.

Shiojiri also said that Emperor Naruhito was eager to see firsthand the development of relations between Indonesia and Japan.
Shiojiri said Emperor Naruito visited two places in Jakarta, namely Lebak Bulus MRT Depot and Pluit Reservoir Pumping Station, on Sunday.

During a visit to Lebak Bulus MRT Depot, Shiojiri mentioned that Emperor Naruhito asked many things and received detailed explanations from experts from Indonesia and Japan.

"For four years (after it was inaugurated), there was one achievement, which was that so far there had never been an accident, and also the punctuality operational ratio was 99.9 percent," Shiojiri said.

Shiojiri added that the MRT said that they prioritize safety and quality of service, such as providing facilities for people with disabilities.
It was also mentioned that MRT operational activities are almost all carried out by Indonesians who have been well nurtured and they become very proficient human resources.

During a visit to Pluit Reservoir, Shiojiri said Emperor Naruhito was very interested in water management and asked various questions during the visit.

"In Pluit, because he (the emperor) was a person who knew a lot about water management, therefore, he asked a lot of technical questions," Shiojiri said.

Emperor Naruhito and Permasuri Masako will meet with President Jokowi at Bogor Palace on June 19, and will visit Yogyakarta on June 21 before returning to Japan on June 23.
