IDXChannel - Chair of ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), Arsjad Rasjid, has emphasized the importance of digital transformation in the business and entrepreneurial development in the ASEAN region.
According to Arsjad, the industry revolution 4.0, driven by digital technology and automation, can advance industries. Indonesia is projected to be a leader in the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the ASEAN region.
AI businesses have great potential in the ASEAN region, considering that ASEAN is currently the world's fastest-growing economy. According to the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), there have been 517 thousand new industrial robot installations worldwide, with 74% of these installations taking place in the entire Asian region.
"The global business environment has rapidly evolved, and digital technology has become one of the means to success. By adopting digital transformation, businesses in the ASEAN region can enhance their competitiveness in the global market, open up new market opportunities, improve customer satisfaction, and empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs)," said Arsjad in a media release on Thursday (6/7/2023).
In line with Arsjad's statement, the World Economic Forum (WEF) has revealed that digital transformation can not only make businesses more efficient and profitable but also more agile and intelligent, adapting to changing consumer needs and market conditions.
"Various companies that have adopted digital technology, automation, and even AI need to be appreciated, especially in the ASEAN region. The effectiveness and efficiency created by
their business processes accelerate economic growth in the region," said Arsjad.
"The ASEAN Business Awards (ABA) 2023 will recognize and honor companies, including MSMEs, that have undergone digital transformation and have shown exceptional success in their respective fields," said Arsjad.
The ASEAN Business Awards 2023 will pay attention to and acknowledge the progress made by ASEAN companies in various industries, recognizing their role in driving regional economic growth. ABA 2023 has introduced the Digital Transformation award pillar, recognizing the significant impact of technology adoption and innovation in business processes and customer experiences. Under this category, there will be two award categories, namely The Bionic Company and The Best CX.
"ASEAN-BAC 2023 invites all businesses in ASEAN that have adopted technology and digitalization to nominate your business for the ASEAN Business Awards 2023. Showcase your success and inspire through technological innovation," said Arsjad.
The Digital Innovation category focuses on companies that have utilized artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, cutting-edge technologies such as low-cost data sensors, computing
power, storage, cellular connectivity, and robotics in their business processes. These companies have leveraged the power of these technologies to enhance efficiency, optimize operations, and drive growth, contributing to the overall digital transformation landscape in the ASEAN region.
Furthermore, the Best CX category will award companies in the business-to-consumer (B2C) sector that have effectively adopted software and technology to enhance their customer experiences. Through innovative applications, digital platforms, and personalized interactions, these companies have successfully redefined service and customer engagement, setting new benchmarks for excellence in customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Various companies such as PT Astra International Tbk., Indika Energy, Sinar Mas, Bakrie Group, and Mayora Group have adopted business processes relying on robotics and AI.
"The acceleration of digital transformation or automation to advance industries in the region is also being done by Indika Energy. We utilize robotic technology, including in the assembly of electric vehicles (EV), namely ALVA. We also apply digitalization in operational activities across other business pillars to achieve effectiveness and efficiency," said Azis Armand, Vice President Director and Group CEO of Indika Energy.
Sinar Mas, on the same note, is also striving to leverage digitalization in its business processes.
"In line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we must see technology as an opportunity for leapfrogging. Exponential leaps can only be achieved through technology adoption. Through the recently held 'Sinar Mas Digital Day 2023,' all business pillars showcased digital innovation and collaborated to create various other new innovations to support business sustainability," said Franky Oesman Widjaja, Chairman & CEO of Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food.
