Expo Indonesia en Mexico Held to Promote Trade and Tourism

The Indonesian Embassy in Mexico with the Trade Ministry held a trade, tourism, investment, and cultural fair entitled Expo Indonesia en Mexico (EIM) 2023.

IDXChannel - The Indonesian Embassy in Mexico with the Trade Ministry held a trade, tourism, investment, and cultural fair entitled Expo Indonesia en Mexico (EIM) 2023 on August 3-6.

This event was held at World Trade Center Building in Mexico to commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During the four days of the event, the EIM fair successfully attracted more than 5.000 visitors. 

The 83 business matching activities between exhibitors and buyers or potential investors resulted in potential transactions of USD 12.9 million or the equivalent of Rp196 billion.

“There is still much potential that we could improve to increase the economic relations between two countries. Therefore, the EIM fair is important for introducing our potential," 
Indonesian Ambassador to Mexico, Cheppy T. Wartono, said in a media release on Tuesday (8/8/2023).


The EIM fair drew 51 participating exhibitors from Indonesia and Mexico. More than 50 participants came from Indonesia, whether from the Central Governments such as the Trade Ministry, Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, as well as from the Governments of DKI Jakarta, Central Java, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and West Papua, as well as private companies. Furthermore, 22 Mexican exhibitors with close ties to Indonesia, including several state governments and corporations also participated in EIM.

At the opening ceremony, four Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesia and Mexico corporations were signed. In addition to the Indonesian products exhibition, various forums for trade and investment, tourism, sustainable development, and intergovernmental forums for the two countries were also held. 

The implementation of EIM is in line with President Jokowi's mandate which focuses on increasing economic cooperation with Mexico, as a non-traditional market with a strategic position to enter North American and South American markets. The total trade value between Indonesia and Mexico showed a surplus for Indonesia. The recorded trade value surplus was USD606.4 million during January-May 2023. 

In the tourism field, the number of visits from Mexico to Indonesia on January-June 2023 period achieved more than 5.000 arrivals. That number increased around 600% compared to the last year's period. The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry which brought tourism industry representatives and held business matching activities at this EIM Fair hoped Mexican public could get more familiar with Indonesian tourism destinations.
