ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting Convenes in Laos

Southeast Asia's top diplomats joined the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) in Vientiane, Laos today (25/7/2024).

IDXChannel - Southeast Asia's top diplomats joined the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) in Vientiane, Laos today (25/7/2024). 

The annual meeting was held in plenary and retreat format. The foreign ministers discussed the state of ASEAN external relations and other issues of importance.

"ASEAN must also fostering greater solidarity on global issues," Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said.

The meeting was preceded by high official level meetings on July 23 and meetings at the level of Ambassadors/Permanent Representatives of ASEAN Member States on July 22

Besides AMM, the foreign ministers are also scheduled to join several other meetings, including the Troika Five-Point Consensus (5PC) Informal Consultation on the Myanmar issue,  ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) Plus Ones with 11 Dialogue Partners, 14th East Asia Summit (EAS) Ministers' Meeting, 25th ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Ministers' Meeting, and the 31st ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).

The meetings are expected to issue several key documents, including the 57th AMM Joint Communique and four Chairman's Statements for AMM and PMC, ARF, APT, and EAS.

Laos holds the ASEAN chairmanship this year. The theme of its chairmanship is "ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience". (Wahytu Dwi Anggoro)
