IDXChannel - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi is set to attend the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related meetings, which will be held in Vientiane, Laos this week.
"The Minister of Foreign Affairs is scheduled to attend 19 meetings," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a media release on Monday (22/7/2024).
The meetings are Troika Five-Point Consensus (5PC) Informal Consultation on the Myanmar issue; AMM (Plenary and Retreat Session); ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) plus Ones with 11 Dialogue Partners; 14th East Asia Summit (EAS) Ministers' Meeting; 25th ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Ministers' Meeting (PRC – Japan – Republic of Korea); and the 31st ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
At the AMM Plenary, she will promote the continuation of Indonesia's priority agenda as the ASEAN Chair, such as maritime and blue economy. At the AMM Retreat and Troika meeting, the minister will emphasize the importance of continuing ASEAN efforts in implementing the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) and developing a more comprehensive ASEAN humanitarian aid strategy.
In a meeting with the 11 ASEAN Dialogue Partners (PMC), Indonesia will encourage major powers to support ASEAN in building regional stability and security, particularly through ASEAN institutions such as the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and the Bali Principles. Additionally, dialogue partners must also build equal relations with ASEAN and strengthen cooperation on current issues such as artificial intelligence and the digital economy.
