FIFA Officially Removes Indonesia as U-20 World Cup Host
FIFA officially decided to remove Indonesia as the host of the upcoming U-20 World Cup.
IDXChannel - FIFA officially decided to remove Indonesia as the host of the upcoming U-20 World Cup. This bad news was received by Indonesia on Wednesday (29/3/2023) evening.
FIFA officially announced the decision through its official website after a meeting with PSSI Chairman, Erick Thohir. Indonesia was initially set to host U-20 World Cup in May-June 2023.
"Following today's meeting between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and President of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir, FIFA has decided, due to the current circumstances, to remove Indonesia as the host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023," FIFA stated.
In the statement, FIFA said that a new host would be announced in the near future. Indonesia may also get sanctions from FIFA.
"A new host will be announced as soon as possible, with the dates of the tournament currently remaining unchanged," the statement continued.
"Potential sanctions against PSSI may also be decided at a later stage," it stated.
