Foreign Minister Sugiono Affirms Indonesia's Commitment in Support for Palestine
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono met with the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein Al Sheikh.
IDXChannel - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono met with the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein Al Sheikh, on the sidelines of the BRICS Plus Summit, held in Kazan, Russia this week.
In the meeting, Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia's strong commitment to the Palestinian people's struggle for independence.
"I will ensure that the Palestinian issue always remains at the forefront of Indonesia's diplomacy, and we will continue to stand firm with the Palestinian people," Sugiono said in a media release.
"This support for Palestine was also conveyed by President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto during his inauguration as President of the Republic of Indonesia on October 20, 2024," he added.
Furthermore, Sugiono conveyed three points in the meeting, namely.
First, reiterating political support for Palestine, including continuing to push for a permanent ceasefire and other peace efforts towards a Two-State Solution.
Second, reaffirming Indonesia's commitment to humanitarian aid to Palestine, both bilaterally and through UN agencies such as UNRWA and ILO.
Third, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East region.
Closing the meeting, the Foreign Minister stated that this BRICS meeting should be utilized to strengthen collaboration as a positive force to continue striving for peace in Palestine. (Wahyu Dwi Anggoro)
