Indonesia and Australia Cooperate to Help Workers Boost Their Skills

Australian and Indonesian businesses and workers from today will have even greater opportunities to boost their skills and expertise

IDXChannel - Australian and Indonesian businesses and workers from today will have even greater opportunities to boost their skills and expertise, with the signing of an expanded Memorandum of Understanding on the Indonesia-Australia Skills Development Exchange Pilot.

This mobility pilot program will enable eligible workers to travel to Australia or Indonesia to develop workplace skills, as well as intercultural and business connections.

1,500 exchange placements will be available for Australian and Indonesian workers for 12 months in each direction, over five years.

Placements will be available for businesses and workers across the agriculture, creative, tourism and travel, green economy, financial, insurance, mining engineering, information media, and telecommunications sectors.

“Indonesia is one of our closest neighbours, and a key part of our trade diversification efforts. Greater cooperation between Australian and Indonesian businesses and workers means more opportunities for trade and investment," said Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell in a media release on Friday.

This mobility pilot program promotes deeper commercial partnerships in the critical minerals and clean energy sectors, supporting both countries through the transition to net zero. 

Indonesia is of vital importance to Australia, as a partner and a neighbour. Deepening economic ties, cultural understanding, and people-to-people links with Indonesia is a priority for the current Australian Government

“Indonesia is the largest economy in Southeast Asia, and among the fastest growing in the G20. Indonesia’s growth presents significant opportunities for Australian businesses across a broad range of sectors, who will benefit substantially from deeper business relationships and enhanced cultural competency," he stated.
