IDXChannel - Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams joined Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimuljono to inspect a new wastewater treatment plant in Palembang on Thursday (10/8/2023).

The Rp1.6 trillion project funded by Australia and Indonesia will provide 8,000 property connections and benefit 40,000 people in its current phase. Upon completion of future phases, 21,700 property connections will be made, benefitting up to 100,000 people.

“We’re pleased to report that construction of the wastewater treatment plant has progressed well since its commencement in November 2020, and is now completed,“ said Ambassador Williams in a media release on Thursday.

“This is a great achievement. Access to better sanitation will improve the quality of life for residents in Palembang and will help improve the surrounding environment," she added.

The Palembang City Sanitation Project has been led by the Palembang City Government through its planning, financing, and construction stages, and will continue to be managed and maintained by the City.
