IDXChannel - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi attended the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit at the UN Headquarters in New York, Monday (18/09).

During the Summit, the Indonesian Foreign Minister delivered a Joint Statement on behalf of ASEAN, followed by the Indonesian Government's national statement.

For the Joint Statement on behalf of ASEAN, the Indonesian Foreign Minister emphasised ASEAN's strong commitment to achieve the SDGs targets in front of the World Leaders.

"ASEAN's commitment and efforts to achieve the SDGs are aligned with ASEAN Vision 2025 and ASEAN Vision 2045," she said, as quoted from the Ministry's media release.

"Especially in the midst of the current uncertain global situation, ASEAN will continue to strengthen its capacity to remain resilient in facing various challenges and shocks in the future," she added.

Retno outlined at least 3 efforts by ASEAN to achieve the SDGs, namely:

First, ASEAN's commitment to narrow the development gap and strengthen the implementation of the SDGs locally, including through the empowerment of youth, women, the elderly, MSMEs and migrant workers.

Second, ASEAN is committed to becoming a resilient community by increasing investments in human resource development, health infrastructure, digital transformation, strong supply chains, and sustainable energy security.

Third, ASEAN remains committed to strengthening multilateralism and respect for the UN Charter.

"In this way, the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be put back on track," she added. (WHY)
