IDXChannel - United States (US) President Joe Biden and Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will hold a bilateral meeting at the White House on 13 November.

During the visit, President Biden will reaffirm the US commitment to deepening our nearly 75-year-long partnership between the world’s second- and third-largest democracies.

"The leaders will explore opportunities to enhance cooperation on the clean energy transition, advance economic prosperity, bolster regional peace and stability, and reinforce our people-to-people ties," said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in a statement on Tuesday (7/11/2023).

"The two leaders will also coordinate on efforts to reinforce ASEAN centrality and uphold international law and promote a free and open Indo-Pacific," she added.

The two leaders launched several important initiatives within the past year.

The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) and the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) which will be platforms of collaboration that have the ability to transform the economic and environmental landscape.

IPEF is a first-of-its-kind regional economic framework that addresses critical priorities, such as supply chain resilience, trade facilitation, and clean energy transition.  With 60 percent of the world’s population, the Indo-Pacific region is projected to be the largest contributor to global growth over the next 30 years.  IPEF partners envision a more robust trade and investment environment that will spur economic growth, job creation, and innovation across the Indo-Pacific.

Similarly, the USD20 billion Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) initiative stands as another cornerstone of our collaborative efforts.  This landmark initiative is committed to assisting Indonesia in achieving its ambitious climate goals and transitioning towards clean, renewable energy sources.
