Secretary Rubio and Foreign Minister Sugiono recognized the importance of the US.-Indonesia relationship and affirmed the contribution of our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to a secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region," said US Department of State Spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
The two top diplomats discussed the importance of peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, including an exchange of views on maritime security in the South China Sea.
They also expressed shared commitment to prioritizing national economic growth and recognized the importance of working together to deepen trade and investment in areas advantageous to both countries.
"Secretary Rubio welcomed Indonesia’s willingness to engage on Middle East peace and post-conflict reconstruction," Bruce said.
Earlier this week, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto congratulated Donald Trump on his return to the White House. He called for stronger bilateral ties between the two countries.
