IDXChannel - Indonesia’s economic growth in 2022, which has passed the pre-pandemic levels, is considered to have not reached its true potential.

The Minister of National Development Planning /The Head of Bappenas explained that the country’s  fiscal policy path should be more directed at boosting economic growth potential if Indonesia wants to become a developed country by 2045.

The average growth during the Jokowi era was only around five percent. In fact, to become a
developed country, Indonesia needs at least growth of above six to seven percent annually until 2045.

“Often I discussed and argued with my colleagues. Colleagues who manage our fiscal policy at the Ministry of Finance about the function of the state budget,” Minister of National Development Planning/ Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa said.

“State budget is actually an automatic stabilizer. When the economy is heating up, it is the state budget that is cooling it down. But if economic growth is below its potential, so it must be pushed,” he explained.
