IDXChannel - Indonesia is committed to strengthening economic collaborations with Brazil, especially in the fields of trade and investment.
"First, it is very important to start negotiation of Indonesia – MERCOSUR Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Trade barriers should be abolished," said Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno when meeting her Brazilian counterart Mauro Vieira in Jakarta on Monday (9/10/2023).
"Second, encourage Brazil to invest on cattle breeding in Indonesia. Third, request Brazil to open access for Indonesia's seafood product," she stated.
According to Retno, Indonesia also wants to establish more cooperation on renewable energy, including R&D ccoperation in scaling up biofuel production.
"I would like to underline that energy and food security should be the priorities of our bilateral relations," she continued.
"On top of that, cooperation on forest issues should also be the priority of the two countries. Indonesia and Brazil are amongst countries with huge areas of forest," she added.
Indonesia and Brazil are two big emerging economies from the Global South and members of the G20. Brazil is Indonesia's largest trading partner and the largest Latin American investor in Indonesia.
