Indonesia and Rwanda Sign MoU to Strengthen Economic Cooperation

IDXChannel - Indonesia and Rwanda today signed the Memorandum of Understanding on General Cooperation which encompasses, among others, trade, agriculture, industry, energy, and mining to further boost their bilateral economic cooperation.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi welcomed his Rwandan counterpart, Vincent Biruta, in Jakarta this afternoon. It was Biruta's first visit to Indonesia.

"We are glad that our bilateral trade is recovering steadily after the pandemic," Retno said during a joint press statement after the bilateral meeting.

Last year, trade between the two countries increased by 100%. In the  first quarter id this year, it increased by 32%. 

"Nevertheless, we believe there is still an ample room to grow," Retno added.

The two ministers also discussed the establishment of the preferential trade agreement (PTA) between Indonesia and Rwanda and explored the possibility of establishing PTA between Indonesia and the East African Community (EAC).
