IDXChannel - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, closed his working visit to the China by receiving a visit by the Mayor of Shanghai, Gong Zheng. This historic meeting took place in Shanghai, China, Tuesday (19/09/2023).
According to a media release from the Vice Presiedential Secretariat's Bureau for Press, Media and Information, Ma'ruf began the conversation by emphasizing the strategic role of the City of Shanghai as a trade gateway and bilateral commercial center between Indonesia and China. He expressed his hope that his visit could spur investment and cooperation in the halal industrial sector between the two countries.
The Vice President explained three key points to strengthen economic cooperation, especially with the City of Shanghai. First, he highlighted the importance of increasing investment from both parties. The Vice President appreciated the great interest of Shanghai investors to invest in Indonesia, including the Morowali Industrial Area.
Second, the Vice President emphasized the importance of developing the halal industrial sector. He invited Shanghai business actors to take advantage of the huge potential of the halal industry in Indonesia, which is valued at 135 billion US dollars.
Third, the Vice President highlighted the importance of cooperation between communities to strengthen good relations between Indonesia and China. He encouraged educational cooperation, especially in the vocational sector, to advance human resources to support Chinese investment in Indonesia.
The Mayor of Shanghai, Gong Zheng, welcomed the points conveyed by the Vice President. He acknowledged that both Indonesia and Shanghai have great potential to increase trade cooperation.
Regarding the halal industry, Mayor Zheng promised to convey information about the halal sector's opportunities which are worth 135 billion US dollars to the Shanghai Municipal Commerce Commission. He also agreed on the importance of people-to-people contact programs through tourism and education.
Furthermore, Mayor Zheng explained Shanghai's progress in developing itself as an influential modern city in the world, following instructions from Chinese President Xi Jinping. Shanghai has managed to maintain its position as China's largest economic center and one of the world's leading trade centers.
