IDXChannel - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has stated that Indonesia's downstream policy can help increase the country's gross domestic product (GDP) per capita.

This means the welfare of Indonesian people will also increase.

According to Jokowi, if Indonesia continues its downstream policy, the country's GDP per capita will be able to exceed Rp153 million or USD10,900 in the next decade.

In 15 years, he added, the country's GDP per capita can increase to Rp217 million or USD 15,800.  In 22 years, it can soar to Rp331 million or USD25 thousand.

Two years after the ban on nickel ore exports, Indonesia's GDP per capita rose to Rp71 million or USD 4,783.9 in 2022.  Before  the covid-19 pandemic, namely 2019, it only reached Rp59.1 million or USD4,174.9.

"In 10 years, the increase can be more than double," he explained when delivering his State of the Nation speech at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (16/8/2023).
