IDXChannel - Indonesia has called on all parties to exercise restraint following Iran's weekend attack against Israel.
"Indonesia is deeply concerned over the escalation of the situation in the Middle East and calls on all parties to exercise restraint," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said on X, Sunday (14/4/2024).
It was Iran's first ever direct assault on Israel. Tehran launched hundreds of missiles and drones against its regional foe.
Iran stated the military operation was in response to the Israeli attack against the Iranian diplomatic facilities in Syria earlier this month.
"Indonesia urges the UN Security Council to act immediately to de-escalate tensions and continue working towards lasting peace in the Middle East, including by ending the illegal occupation of Palestine and various violations of international law by Israel." the Ministry added.
Previously, Indonesia warned that the Israeli attack against the Iranian diplomatic premise would further escalate conflict in the region and diminish the prospect of a lasting peace.
"This attack is a direct violation of international law and the UN Charter. It is yet another dangerous action by Israel that will further escalate conflict in the region and diminish the prospect of a lasting peace," the Ministry said at the time. (WHY)
