Jokowi Asks OJK to Support the Downstream Program

President Joko Widodo asked the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to participate in supporting the downstream program.

IDXChannel - President Joko Widodo asked the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to participate in supporting the downstream program that is being intensively carried out by the government with concrete support. 

According to the President, downstreaming is the key so that Indonesia can jump into a developed country.

"It has been conveyed by the Chairman of the OJK regarding downstreaming so that support is given. I ask for a concrete one because 
I still hear that people who want to make it difficult to find funding. So the support is really given, but also with high calculations and caution because this downstreaming will be the key for our country to jump to become a developed country," said President Joko Widodo in his remarks while attending the 2023 Financial Services Industry Annual Meeting (PTIJK) at the Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, Monday, February 6, 2023.

According to the President, the government has consistently encouraged downstreaming as well as an effort so that Indonesia can get out of the trap of middle-income countries. 

Downstreaming must be carried out in various sectors, both in the mineral and coal mining sector, crude palm oil (CPO), to marine natural resources. The President believes that downstreaming provides multiple added values.

"I have often said about mineral and gas and gas, from the name nickel, our jump from 1.1 billion USD jumped to 30 billion USD after downstreaming. Then later run to bauxite, run to lead, run to copper, run to gold, run to natural gas and oil. If we really do this consistently, we will be a developed country," he said.

In the marine natural resources sector, the President reminded of the great potential possessed by Indonesia, which has a sea area of 3.25 million square kilometers. Various potential natural wealth such as seaweed and various kinds of fish, the President said, have not been utilized as much as possible.
