Indonesia Rejects Any Efforts to Depopulate Gaza
The Indonesian government says any attempts to displace or remove Gaza's residents is entirely unacceptable.
iDXChannel - The Indonesian government says any attempts to displace or remove Gaza's residents is entirely unacceptable.
"Such efforts to depopulate Gaza would only serve to perpetuate the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory and align with broader strategies aimed at expelling Palestinians from Gaza," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a media release on Tuesday (21/1/2025).
According to the Ministry, the ceasefire in Gaza must serve as a momentum to start dialogue and negotiations towards realizing a two-state solution, in accordance with international law and internationally agreed parameters.
"The Government of Indonesia has never received any information from anyone, nor any plans regarding the relocation of some of Gaza’s 2 million inhabitants to Indonesia as part of post-conflict reconstruction efforts," the Ministry stated.
"The Government refrained from speculating on issues of which no information is available," it added.
The ceasefire deal between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas was announced Wednesday. It will come into effect on Sunday.
The initial phase will last six weeks. Hamas will release 33 Israeli hostages, while Israel will free a large number of Palestinian prisoners. (Wahyu Dwi Anggoro)
