IDXChannel - Four fifth-generation F-22s from the 27th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, landed at Bali International Airport on Tuesday (6/8/2024).
"Marking the first time United States (US) fifth-generation aircraft have landed in Indonesia," the US Embassy in Jakarta said in a media relase.
The US Air Force visit, planned in coordination with the Indonesian Government, allowed pilots and maintenance teams the opportunity to increase awareness of Indonesian airspace operations and test rapid refueling capabilities.
A C-130 from the US Air National Guard landed in Bali one day prior to prepare rapid hot pit refueling operations for the F-22s.
In November 2023, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto signed a historic Defense Cooperation Arrangement.
They also discussed ways to expand training opportunities, increase educational exchanges, and improve maritime domain awareness.
"The US Air Force conducts regular training and engagements with Indonesia to further develop operational capabilities and ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region," the embassy said. (Wahyu Dwi Anggoro)
