IDXChannel - The government has announced plans to develop marine products from Biak area in Papua province to Hong Kong and Japan. This is done because the demand for fish continues to increase in both countries, especially fish for sashimi.
The government through the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment has assessed that the establishment of more direct flights to expand the country’s fishery exports has been discussed by involing the Ministry of Maritime affairs and Fisheries as well as the Ministry of Transportation.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut binsar pandjaitan believes the demand for fish would continue to increase if there area direct flights between Biak and Hong Kong and Japan.
"We will push for direct flights, either to hong kong or directly to Japan since the demand for fish for sashimi continues to increase. So I think with the Minister of Marine affairs and Fisheries earlier, we will also talk with the Minister of Transportation later on how this can work," the Minister stated.
Biak is part of the Fishery Management Zones of the Repulic of Indonesia (WPPNRI) which has abundant yellowfin tuna. The commodity is highly sought after in Japan, the United States and China.
The fishery potential in Meranti Bay and the Pacific Ocean is more than 1 million tons, while more than 843 thousand tons of fish can be caught in these waters.
