IDXChannel - The Indonesian Embassy in London initiated a stakeholders dialogue with the United Kingdrom (UK) timber industry on Wednesday (8/1/2025).
This initiative forms part of the Indonesian government's efforts to boost timber exports to the UK.
In his opening remarks, the Indonesian Ambassador to the UK Desra Percaya highlighted the persistent negative stigma surrounding Indonesian timber products due to deforestation concerns.
"Indonesian timber products are renowned for their beauty, durability, and quality, but they are still perceived as unsustainable, despite Indonesia’s implementation of various programs, such as the Timber Legality Assurance System (SVLK) and Sustainable Forest Management, to meet the sustainability criteria of the UK and European schemes," he stated.
The forum reached a consensus on the desire to increase timber imports from Indonesia.
