IDXChannel - The First Senior Officials' Meeting of Indonesia-China Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue (2+2 SOM) took place in Jakarta on Tuesday (13/8/2024).
"This meeting marks a new chapter in the comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and China. For the first time, we have held a joint dialogue to enhance cooperation in politics, defense, and security," stated Director General of Asia-Pacific and African Affairs at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdul Kadir Jailani in a media release.
He further mentioned that the 2+2 SOM serves as a preparatory step for the Ministerial-level Dialogue, anticipated to take place in 2025.
During the meeting, the discussions led to an agreement on capacity development cooperation for diplomats and joint military training between the two nations.
Both countries also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation to maintain regional security and stability, prevent terrorism, and address transnational crimes.
The Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue (2+2) stems from the MoU agreed upon during President Joko Widodo's visit to Beijing in October 2023. The 2+2 at the Ministerial level in 2025 will be a part of the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-PRC diplomatic relations, which have been established since April 13, 1950.
