IDXChannel - Foreign Minister Sugiono received a courtesy call by French Ambassador to Indonesia Fabien Penone on Tuesday (11/3/2025) to discuss strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
During the meeting, Minister Sugiono welcomed the increase in high-level interactions between the two countries, including the planned visits of high-ranking Indonesian officials to France and vice versa.
The visits are expected to further strengthen cooperation in various fields, including defense, trade and investment, energy transition, and the digital economy.
To improve economic relations between the two countries, Foreign Minister Sugiono encouraged the expansion of business-to-business (B2B) cooperation to open new investment opportunities, especially in the downstream mineral industry, green infrastructure development, and strengthening the food industry, in line with President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita vision.
"France is the fourth largest investor from the European region," the Foreign Ministry said in a media release.
In addition to economic cooperation, both parties also highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation to face common global challenges, such as in the framework of food security and nutrition, geopolitical stability, and sustainable maritime and marine governance.
"Along with the momentum of celebrating 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Indonesia and France agreed to accelerate the finalization of concrete cooperation agreements across various sectors, including agriculture, transportation, disaster management, diplomatic education and training, and other partnerships adaptable to future challenges and opportunities," it stated.
