IDXChannel - President Prabowo Subianto expressed his deepest condolences on the passing of Pope Francis.
"With the deepest sorrow, I learned the news of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis," Prabowo said on X on Monday (21/4/2025).
"The world has lost a remarkable figure whose unwavering commitment to peace, humanity, and fraternity inspired many," he stated.
Pope Francis visited Indonesia in September 2024, part of his tour of Southeast Asia and Oceania. He led a grand mass in Jakarta during the visit.
"His memorable visit to Jakarta last year left a profound impression, not only among the Catholic community, but also in the hearts of all Indonesians," Prabowo said.
"His message of simplicity, pluralism, solidarity with the poor and marginalized, and compassion for others will forever serve as a guiding light for us all," he added.
Pope Francis passed away on Monday after suffering a stroke and a heart failure. The 88 year old man was the first leader of the Roman Catholic Church from the Global South.
Farewell, Holy Father. Your call to uphold our national motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, Unity in Diversity, will forever be treasured in our hearts," Prabowo concluded. (Wahyu Dwi anggoro)
