IDXChannel - Indonesia has welcomed the adoption of the United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution 2728 demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

"Indonesia calls for immediate implementation of this legally binding Resolution by all parties," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said on its X account, Tuesday (26/3/2024).

"This is the time to ensure delivery of humanitarian assistance at the scale required and protect civilians in Gaza," it stated.

Last week, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi invited the international community to make Ramadan a momentum for strengthening global humanitarian solidarity, especially for Palestine.

"Ramadan provides an opportunity for us to become better humans and encourages us to enhance togetherness and friendship. Ramadan is a month of tolerance and ukhuwah" said Foreign Minister  Retno.

"We are fortunate to gather here in comfortable and safe conditions. But the same cannot be said for our brothers and sisters in Palestine. More than the 32,000 Palestinians have died in Gaza, 13,000 of whom are children. Two million people have been displaced, and those remaining are currently suffering from starvation. They can't even cry anymore," she said.

According to her, Indonesia will continue to endeavor to alleviate the burden of the Palestinian people, including by continuing to send much-needed humanitarian aid, increasing Indonesia's contribution to UNRWA, and other efforts such as providing political support through Oral Statements at the International Court of Justice to supports the Advisory Opinion process.
