Indonesia Committed to Garnering International Support for Palestine
Retno Marsudi welcomed the visit of the Bureau of the United Nations (UN) Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.
IDXChannel - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi welcomed the visit of the Bureau of the United Nations (UN) Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) in Jakarta on Thursday (4/7/2024)
"Had a productive discussion on garnering international support for Palestine and implementation of the two-state solution through the work of CEIRPP," Retno said on her official X account.
During the meeting, Retno reiterated the urgent need to support an immediate and permanent ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian assistance in Gaza
The delegation was led by the permanent representative of Senegal to the UN and consists of the permanent representatives of Indonesia, Malaysia, Namibia, Nicaragua as well as the permanent representative of Palestine as the permanent observer and representatives of the UN Secretariat.
Besides Retno, the delegation also met with a number of high ranking officials, parliament members, permanent representatives of ASEAN countries in Jakarta, as well as representatives from the business sector and civil society.
CEIRPP was inaugurated in 1975 based on UN General Assembly Resolution (UNGA) 3376. The Committee is mandated to recommend the UN General Assembly on programs that would enable the Palestinian people to exercise their inalienable rights to self-determination without external intervention, national independence and sovereignty, and the right to return to their homes and lands.
The Bureau administrates the strategic direction of the Committee's future work. As part of the Bureau, Indonesia is always at the forefront of the Committee. (WHY)
