Indonesia Posts Inflation of 0.09 Percent in May 2023

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that month-to-month (m-to-m) inflation rate in May 2023 was 0.09 percent.

IDXChannel - The Central Statistics  Agency (BPS) reported that month-to-month (m-to-m) inflation rate in May 2023 was 0.09 percent. Meanwhile, the year-to-date (y-to-d) inflation last month was 1.10 percent.

"The low inflation was affected by transportation as well as clothing and footwear sectors," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Pudji Ismartini in a media release on Monday (5/6/2023).

The year-on-year (y-on-y) inflation rate in May 2023 was 4.00 percent, with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 114.84. 

The highest inflation was recorded in Kotabaru and Timika at 6.04 percent each with CPI of 121.80 and 117.74, respectively, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Pangkal Pinang at 1.93 percent with a CPI of 114.16.

Inflation occurred as the prices went up, as indicated by the increase in most of the expenditure groups indices, namely: Food, Beverages, and Tobacco Group of 4.27 percent; Clothing and Footwear Group of 1.54 percent; Housing, Water, Electricity, and Household Fuel Group of 2.48 percent; Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance Group of 3.03 percent; Health Group of 2.52 percent; Transport Group of 10.62 percent; Recreation, Sport, and Culture Group of 2.18 percent; Education Group of 2.75 percent; Food and Beverage Serving Services/Restaurant Group of 3.38 percent; and Personal Care and Other Services Group of 4.48 percent.
