IDXChannel - An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 7.4 struck Ishikawa prefecture in Japan on Monday (1/1/2024).

The earthquake was also felt in Niigata, Toyama, and Fukui Prefectures, Nagano, Gifu, Tokyo, Yamagata, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama, Shizuoka, Aichi, Mie, Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, Tottori, Iwate, Miyagi, and Akita.  The earthquake also caused tsunami waves in some areas.

"The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently coordinating with the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo and the Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka to determine the impact of the earthquake and tsunami waves," the Ministry stated in a media release.

The Indonesian Embassy and Consulate General are coordinating with local authorities and Indonesian community centres. The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo's self-reporting system records that around 1,315 Indonesians live in Ishikawa Prefecture.

"The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo and the Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka have issued an appeal for Indonesian citizens to remain vigilant against aftershocks and tsunamis and always monitor information and directions from local authorities," the Ministry stated. (WHY)
