IDXChannel - Members of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) spoke out regarding the decline in exports in January 2023 by six percent.
Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee of Apindo Ajib Hamdani said that the decline in Indonesia's exports in January 2023 was caused by global economic conditions. Global economy is still experiencing uncertainties, causing a decline in demand for a number of commodities sold by Indonesia.
“It happened because the global economy contracted, and of course there were adjustments for the demand from Indonesia’s leading commodities,” Hamdani said.
To improve the country’s export performance, he hopes that the government will be able to quickly apply the government's long-term investment roadmap to strengthen the domestic economy by prioritizing downstream industry. The move is expected to generate added value.
“It has been very positive when the government made a long-term investment path up to 2035. This program can strengthen the economy by downstreaming and creaing added value,” he stated.
