IDXChannel - The government continues to boost the capacity of the national manufacturing industry by strengthening 7 industrial sectors through downstreaming strategies, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said.
The Coordinating Minister explained that industry sector currently only covers around 18 percent of national GDP. It is hoped that it will be able to reach 30 percent by 2030.
Airlangga mentioned 7 priority industrial sectors that are being developed by the government, namely foods and beverages, automotive, chemicals, textile, textile products, electronics, pharmaceuticals and health. These various sectors themselves contribute 70 percent of the national industrial capacity so that their development will be able to contribute to national economic growth.
The government ensured that the development of the manufacturing industry woulf also be supported by national programs such as a commitment to reduce carbon impact by building an electric vehicle industry from upstream to downstream. It is hoped that Indonesia will be able to become part of the global economic supply chain structure.
“These seven sectors were chosen because they cover 70 percent of total manufacturing GDP and 65 percent of manufacturing exports and 65 percent of industrial workers. This is a mandatory requirement for Indonesia to escape the middle income trap,” he said.
