Retno emphasised three main priorities that must be fulfilled for a sustainable future. First, investing and building green energy. Second, capitalising on the huge potential of the blue economy. Third, the Indonesian Foreign Minister emphasised to focus on carbon sequestration.
"As the third largest tropical rainforest country in the world, Indonesia has the capacity to absorb large amounts of emissions. With the lowest deforestation rate in the last 20 years, we can be sure that Indonesia is on the right track," she said.
Furthermore, Retno explained that Indonesia has endorsed a long-term strategy for low carbon and climate resilience by 2050 as well as a roadmap to achieve the net zero emission target by 2060 or sooner.
In closing, Retno reiterated that all parties play an important role in efforts towards a low carbon economy and confirmed Indonesia's commitment to strengthen collaboration in order to realise a sustainable future.
